Her blindfold was removed and she was staring into the cold eyes of a man sitting behind an oversized mahogany desk, a man she never saw before.

When he wasn't forthcoming with an explanation, she said "It would be nice if I knew who went to all this trouble to talk to me." The laugh she gave was sarcastic. "A phone call would've done the trick.”

His ice black eyes bored into her. "I wanted to see you up close and personal."

Lorie tilted her head, the tone in her voice just as icy as his eyes. "Did you have my husband killed?"

A sinister grin lifted his mouth upward and he leaned forward across his desk. "Yes, I did. And I have to say it was very satisfying."

Right at that moment, she decided justice was not good enough for him. Other plans unraveled in her head, from having him whipped or tarred and feathered. Both were too good for him.

"I see." She paused, meeting his eyes head on. "And the attacks on me?"

"Oh, yes. Those were satisfying, too. And sweet. Especially setting fire to your house. The bad part of that was it didn't burn the whole thing to the ground with you in it.” He pursed his lips. "Such a shame."

"Why did you do all this?"

He lifted his hands, his fingertips touching. "Your husband was sticking his nose where it didn’t belong."

"You mean he caught you making claims about a drug that wasn't true?" she charged. “How many others have been put on the market that no one knows about? Was that your plan? Putting more worthless drugs out there that could kill people?"

Julius DeVane drew back his head and laughed, one that sounded like he enjoyed scamming the public. "If you only knew. I pay a lot of money to a lot of people to make sure I get what I want.”

"Did Glenn confront you about your deceptive practices when he came to see you? He knew all about you and what you were doing, didn’t he?"

"Yes," he admitted. "I couldn't let one man ruin what I've built this company into all these years. So I did the only thing I could. I had him killed. I would've done it myself but that's why I have hired hands to do it for me."

She had been right about what Glenn found out. Since DeVane admitted he had her husband murdered and ordered his attacks on her, she had to find out why. Then she had to figure out a way to get out of this and dish out some sweet justice of her own.

"And me? Why attack me? I didn"t have anything to do with Glenn's case against you."

"I couldn't take that chance. You know. Pillow talk. Besides, he said he had some sort of proof that he kept in a code book. That's why.”

And there it was. The truth she'd been waiting for.
